Adoption Fees & Requirements
The adoption fee for our precious dogs is $400 for adult dogs and $500 for dogs under one year.
If adopting an intact dog from NWH, the adoption is not final until the dog is sterilized. An additional refundable deposit of $300 is required with the adoption fee. We require the dogs to be fixed by 18 months of age or within 60 days of adoption. Acceptable sterilization methods include spay, neuter, vasectomy, surgical ligation, or ovary sparing spay.
We strongly believe in giving dogs the best chance at a new life and training is a must. Thus, we require proof of at least one pre-paid training session with an approved trainer (Petco does not qualify). There will be exceptions and we will work with each adopter to ensure the best possible outcome for their new companion!
We also believe that some of our dogs will need to do actual work. Thus, when appropriate, we allow placement in a working home through a department or individual owner. This will depend both on the dog and handler.
Transport Availability
Adopters have to make an effort to come at least most of the way to pick up their adopted dog. We may have volunteers able to assist, but please expect to pick up your dog from the foster location. Dogs are mainly located on the west coast such as CA, WA and UT until the rescue expands.
Why Adopt Through NWH
While shelters and rehoming sites are important options, what we provide is breed specific knowledge, preparation, and support. Our dogs go through an initial evaluation and continued assessment in foster homes, allowing us to truly understand their personalities, needs, and potential. This is not first-come, first-served. We focus on making the right match!
Foster homes don't just house dogs; they help build foundations. Dogs being learning basic manners and obedience, and adopters receive honest, detailed insight you simply can't get from a shelter. No dog is perfect, but we help prepare adopters for decompression, challenges, and success so everyone starts off informed and supported.
All dogs are health-checked and vetted, with full transparency about any medical needs. And when you adopt, you're doing even more - you're saving two lives. One dog finds a home, and another takes their place in foster, often rescued from a euthanasia list. Adoption fees help us do it all over again.
Our application process may feel more involved than a shelter's, but it exists for one reason: lasting placements. These breeds require commitment, structure, and training - especially in the first few weeks. We require training experience or sessions because we know it sets dogs and adopters up for success.
With ongoing resources, Adoption Ninjas, and volunteer trainers, we're committed to supporting our fosters and adopters every step of the way!
